Mapale “Gio” Itoewaki

Multimedia & Logistics Officer

Mapale “Gio” Itoewaki, born in 1996, is the coordinator of our MultiMedia Team and the voice of the Wayana Radio Podcast. He has a deep rooted passion for music. This, coupled with his experience in photography, makes him a great asset for the Mulokot Team.

In April of 2023, he participated in the twenty-second United Nations Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York. In his statement, Gio passionately highlighted the burdens that climate change place on the Indigenous Peoples in Suriname, such as the consequences for food security, traditional knowledge and medicine and ancestral lands. He also used this moment to strongly call out consequent governments for their unfair treatment of Indigenous Peoples, who do not get to enjoy their full human rights.

Gio is also responsible for the logistics of Mulokot, is flexible, eager to learn new things and above all working with all his heart for the Mulokot Foundation. He is the proud father of a little Wayana son, which gives him a total new challenge in his live.
